Located at the top of your head, the Crown Chakra is the seventh wheel in our chakra system.  This chakra is considered our direct line to the Divine and Universal knowing and is deeply related to our spirituality as well as our ability to connect with our true inner being.

When our crown chakra is blocked, we experience a mind/body disconnect, diminished spirituality or even anger towards the Divine. It can also manifest as a sense of hopelessness, emptiness and loneliness. Due to its direct connection to our nervous system and pineal glands, a blocked or imbalanced crown chakra also leads to poor sleep habits, anxiety, depression, forgetfulness, clouded thinking and long-term diminishing cognitive abilities.

While there are several methods of unblocking and balancing our chakras, one of the fastest and most enjoyable ways is through the use of essential oils.  From topical applications to aromatherapy, the spiritual, psychological and physical benefits of essential oils are impossible to dispute.  When used on a regular basis, especially in combination with diet, yoga and affirmations, you will see phenomenal benefits directly related to you crown chakra.

Which Oils Should I Use?

While all essential oils carry with them the benefit of stimulating the mind and bringing us back to the present through the power of our senses, certain oils are best for stimulating, unblocking and balancing the crown chakra.

Each of these oils carry with them the healing powers and energetic frequency most closely associated with the crown, stimulating us on a mental, emotional, spiritual and physical level.

Jasmine is extracted from the flowers of the Jasmine plant.  It has a potent sweet and romantic aroma which stimulates the pineal gland directly related to the crown chakra, causing a release of certain hormones in the body, including serotonin, which offers a mental and emotional boost, decreasing anxiety and depression.

It also reduces insomnia, uplifts our emotional state and lessens pain or discomfort.

One of the most common essential oils, lavender is best known for its soothing aroma.  Studies have shown that is has an enormous impact on the autonomic nervous system, improving sleep, decreasing anxiety, and lessening mental exhaustion from overthinking and stress.

It enhances meditation, allowing for a deeper connection to the Divine and the self.

Frankincense is well known for its uses within several religious practices.  Thought to be a holy oil, frankincense is sourced from the resin of Boswellia Sacra tree.  Much like lavender and jasmine, frankincense is often used to lessen stress and anxiety.

It also is believed to balance the release of hormones in the body, allowing for anti-aging properties, reduction in headaches and an ease of mood swings. It may help oxygenate the pituitary and pineal glands, both glands believed to be in direct connection with the crown chakra.

Vetiver, unlike the others mentioned, is a lesser known essential oil though still offers phenomenal benefits to the crown chakra. It comes from vetiver grass which has an earthy and musky aroma.  It is considered a tonic for the nerves as it is believed to reduce nervous disorders and calm the nervous system.

Due to its connection to our nervous system, it is believed to have a direct effect on our subconscious mind, enhancing our dreams, our spirituality and our connection to the Divine, bridging the gap between the spiritual and the physical.

Inspiration essential oil is a unique blend of oils created by Young Living™.  It includes Cedarwood which boosts the functionality of the nervous system, Frankincense, Vetiver, Coriander which regulates hormone secretion of the endocrine glands and more.

Inspiration blend is traditionally used by the native peoples of Arabia, India, and North America for enhancing spirituality, prayer, meditation, and inner awareness. It creates an aromatic sanctuary for those seeking quiet meditation and spirituality.

How Do I Use Essential Oils?

Having all the knowledge in the world about each essential oil means nothing if you do not put it into practice.  Luckily, using essential oils is simple to learn.  Implementing a variety of these techniques will offer the most benefits to unblocking and balancing your crown chakra:

  • Apply a couple of drops directly to the top of your head.
  • Combine with a carrier oil, such as coconut or olive, and use as a moisturizer or pair with a scalp massage.
  • Add a few drops to a diffuser to fill the room with aroma (learn how to get a free diffuser).
  • Purchase and add a few drops to a diffuser necklace to carry the benefits with you anywhere.

Where Do I Find Essential Oils?

There is certainly no limit to the number of essential oil brands and retailers out there right now. Unfortunately, there is no regulation or standard on oils which means you never really know what level of purity you are going to get.  And without 100% pure and therapeutic grade oils, not only are you missing out on the very benefits described here, but you may also be breathing in or applying synthetic and potentially harmful products.

Personally, after countless hours of rigorous researching and more purchases than I care to admit, I recommend buying essential oils directly from Plant Therapy Essential Oils for their purity, safety practices, and on-staff certified aromatherapists.

Our chakra system, our whole being, was created to function in perfect harmony with the natural creations around us.  For this reason, we will only find true balance by using oils in their purest, natural form.
